The Osorio Farm Estate constitutes Teror’s most exquisite natural setting. Part of the legendary Doramas Rural Park, which dates back to before the conquest, Osorio contains one of the most important forests on the island. Located two kilometres from Teror’s historic town centre, Osorio Farm covers some 207 hectares, with a number of shaded trails, slopes, ravines, farmland and forest. Within its boundaries ancient laurisilva forest survives and broad areas are covered with chestnut trees.

Among the different natural features found on the farm (especially near the estate house), a number of trails snake through the park, trails lined with trees that have been imported from Europe and South America, such as ombu, monkey puzzle, cork, oat and evergreen oak.

In the centre of the Farm is the main estate, which covers an area of about 1,000m2. It is made up of an older section, located at the rear with a wooden balcony, typical of rural Canarian houses. Another section, in the 19th century English colonial style, was added on at the front. On the west side of the house is a beautiful romantic style garden, which blends well with its natural surroundings.

Osorio also contains homes for the local farmers who work the pasture lands and a barnyard area where some black Canarian pigs are kept. Here you will also find springs and enchanted corners of the forest which offer the visitor restful peace. Hikers and lovers of nature find many interesting trails and wilderness to explore in Osorio, on their way to the summit.

Since 1981 Osorio Estate Farm has belonged to the Island of Gran Canaria government. Since 1986 a Nature Classroom has helped promote environmental education. There are barrack-style bunk bed lodgings for organised group activities.

Teror a Hoya Alta

Recorrido: Tierra/Asfalto

  Pino Santo Path
From Lomo Gallego to Teror
To begin this walk, we suggest that that you go to the intersection of Aríñez (Cruce de Aríñez) from Teror's historical centre on bus number 214. From there, begin walking towards La Caldera. This footpath is a section of the old royal pathway that that linked Santa Brígida with Teror. The route begins at the Caldera de Pino, next to a reservoir, where a dirt track leads to the Faro valley river bank which, in turn, joins an old stone path. After 1km, you will arrive at the Laurelar spring and watering hole. From here, walk up to El Faro where you can appreciate superb views of Teror's historical centre.  The trail passes by farmland and is broken, on two occasions, by the highway from El Álamo. Once you have left the paved highway, the trail follows the Fondillo ravine, passing by Falcón hill. From the dry riverbed, walk up to the left bank, until you reach the hamlet of El Álamo, El Chorrito and finally reaching the village of Teror.

  Wanderweg Pino Santo
Einmal angekommen, gehen Sie in Richtung La Caldera.

Recorrido: Camino
Duración: 1 h. aprox.
Distancia: 2,86 km.
Dificultad: Media

  Valleseco Path
From La Laguna to Teror
To begin this itinerary we recommended that you travel by bus (number 220) towards La Laguna until the race track in Valleseco. Departing from the recreational area of La Laguna (recently converted into an outdoor learning centre and birdwatching area) you will a see the Romero Aqueduct, which carries water from Las Rosada. In a south-easterly direction, walk down along an asphalted road until you reach highway GC- 21 that links Teror with Valleseco. Continuing downwards, cross the highway several times, along intermittent stretches of dirt and paved road. On rainy days, earth sections can become slippery and dangerous. The track continues until a water well, where a sign marks the beginning of the downward trail along the La Laguna hillside. Continuing the descent, follow the 1,120m stretch of concrete road. Along this descent, which has a medium slope of 17 percent, there are wonderful views of the village of Teror. One you have arrived at the Los Sequeros hostel (at the time of press, still in planning stages), continue along a short section of the old stone path until the entrance of the football pitch. From the pitch, follow El Castaño and Herrería streets, until returning to the Real de la Plaza St.
Route: Return
Time: About 1 hour
Distance: About 2 kms

  Hiking Trails
Teror's hills and ravines are covered by many pathways which take hikers to surprising places. One of the oldest shortcuts to the mainroad can be traversed on foot between different neighbourhoods ; others are farm or herding tracks; trails to panoramic spots; or old roads which have fallen into disuse.

  Wanderwege

  Sour Spring
Throughout history, the Fuente Agria (literally, sour spring) has been the most well-known of the town’s springs for its excellent mineral waters. This spring is located in the Barranco de Teror, the ravine located less than a kilometre from the historic town centre, on the road that leads from the sea coast to the summit.
For centuries, the water from this spring met the needs of generations of Teror’s citizens and was a major source of wealth for the town. Some local residents still visit the spring with their jugs and bottles to fetch water. However, many more prefer the convenience of purchasing this municipal firm’s bottled water. It has been managing the sales and distribution since 1982 and over the years, Fuente Agria’s has received important prizes for its healthful properties.
In 1928 it was declared to have Public Usefulness and considered a medicinal mineral water. In 1916, the grounds around the Fuente Agria spring were enhanced with a masonry façade as a testimony to this natural monument.

  Cistercian Monastery
In 1888 the building work was completed with the help of many local townsfolk and in November of that same year the nuns moved to their new residence.
The building is constructed bearing in mind that this order demands an absolutely cloistered and contemplative life. The decor is solemn, and the building divided into three areas: the central church, the convent itself which houses a training area and lodging.
The main part of the convent includes the farm land known as Los Castaños, purchased in 1917 where crops are grown.. The Cistercian community of Teror is well-known these days for the hand-made sweets they produce.

The Cistercian church
This church’s imposing size owes to the fact that, at the time of construction, it was thought that it would one day be parish church and sanctuary for Our Lady of the Pine as the Basilica was deteriorating.  The church has a single nave with a high barrel vault and an impressive main altarpiece dating from 1890. The main image on display is the Virgin Patrocinio, between San Benito and Ildefonso, images taken from the convent of San Ildefonso in Las Palmas.

La Plaza de Sintes is located in the grounds of the old Sintes Farm. It is the biggest open space in the area and the most recently created. This plaza has a contemporary, functional design, which fits in well with more traditional features, as in the paving stone, and with other contemporary elements. This great public space was conceived for the purpose of holding big open air events near the town auditorium, offering a cultural forum which opens the historic town centre to modern times.

  The Council House
This building is located behind the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine, to the side of the Square of the Alameda. It dates to the end of the 19th century. The lower floor was built in 1883 as a public granary. In 1909 the town hall purchased the building with the intention of installing a school. This never came to pass, however, and the building became the Council House. Between 1945 and 1952 the upper floor was added, with towers at each corner of the building. Until the end of the 1980s all the town hall   business was carried out in this building. Currently, it houses the town assembly hall. The other town hall offices are located the New Town Hall Offices building.

  Das Konsistorium
Das Konsistorium (Casa Consistorial) liegt hinter der Basilika von El Pino, an einer Seite des La Alameda-Platzes. Das Gebäude stammt vom Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts.

Palacio Episcopal - Episcopal Palace - Bischofschloss

The old Episcopal Palace is located just behind the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine, the Episcopal Palace is emblematic of the historic town centre. This was a gift from the people of Teror to the Bishops Moran and Delgado in appreciation for the construction of the church of Our Lady of the Pine. Since undergoing restoration work in 1982, part of the building contains the municipal Cultural Centre with an exhibition room and main hall. The oldest section is used by the parish for religious activities.

The patio of the old Episcopal Palace is integrated with the town’s Cultural Centre and is one of the most inviting spots for respite, with its elegant wooden portico and garden area. It is open whenever an activity is held in the Cultural Centre.

La Alameda, also known as the Plaza Pío XII, is a wide expanse of public space in front of the Episcopal Palace. It dates from 1844, but its current form took shape in 1981, together with the renovation of the Episcopal Palace. Until that point, the Alameda had a kiosk which made this square a popular meeting place for outdoor socialising. Currently it is used for cultural events and festivities and is one of the most frequented spots by visitors to the historic town centre.
