La Virgen del Pino - Patrona de la Diócesis de Canarias
La historia de Teror no se entendería sin la Virgen del Pino, Patrona de la Diócesis de Canarias y referente religioso de muchas generaciones de canarios. La fecha de su aparición se mantiene como un gran misterio, aunque la tradición ha perpetuado el 8 de septiembre de 1481 como el día en el que la imagen apareció en lo alto de un Pino, que estaría situado cerca de la Cruz Verde ubicada en la Plaza del Pino. La devoción a la Virgen del Pino se remonta a los primeros años de la conquista y convierte a Teror en el Centro religioso de la Isla.
La imagen de la Virgen del Pino es la pieza más valiosa de la Basílica, no sólo por su significado, sino por su antigüedad. La costumbre de vestir y adornar con joyas la imagen se remonta al siglo XVI. Los vestidos y joyas expuestas en el Camarín, son un ejemplo del arte del bordado y de la orfebrería, pero además una señal del fervor popular hacia la Virgen, pues este tesoro se compone de ofrendas y donaciones de los feligreses.

It is clear that religious devotion to Our Lady of the Pine has spread and increased for centuries from the time of the conquest to the present day, making Teror the religious centre for the island. The image of Our Lady of the Pine is the most valuable item of the Basilica because of its significance as well as its antiquity. The identity of its creator is a subject of controversy although it seems to have been brought from Seville at the end of 15th century or at the start of the 16th.
This image has a marked influence of the Gothic period reflected in the position of the image, the style of her hair, the fold of her clothing and other aesthetic qualities. The wood used for this carving is painted in various colours and measures just over a metre in height. The vestiments and jewels displayed in the riche reflect the embroidery and goldsmith art and also illustrate the popular devotion to this Virgin. Die Geschiche von Teror ist ohne die Heilige Jungfrau "del Pino" nicht zu verstehen.Sie ist die Schutzpatronin der Dioziöse der Kanaren und für viele Generationen ein religiöses Motiv. Das Datum ihrer Erscheinung ist ein Mysterium, wobei der 8. September des Jahres 1481 als der Tag angesehen wird, an dem ihre Gestalt auf der Krone eines Pinienbaumes erschien. Dieser Baum befand sich in der Nähe des "Grünen Kreuzes" auf dem Platz "del Pino". Die Heiligenverehrung geht auf die ersten Jahre der Eroberungszüge zurück und hat Teror zum religiösen Zentrum der Insel gemacht.
Das Bildnis der Heiligen Jungfrau "del Pino" ist der wertvollste Schatz der Basilika. Aber nicht nur wegen seiner Antiquität, sondern vor allen Dingen der Gebräuche wegen, da die Statue seit dem 16. Jahrhundert mit Schmuck behangen wird. Die Gewänder und Schmuckstücke sind im Heiligenschrein ausgestellt und sind ein Beispiel der Stickerei- und Goldschmiedekunst, zugleich aber auch ein Beispiel der Liebe zur Jungfrau. Dieser Schatz setzt sich vor allen Dingen aus Spenden und Gaben der Gläubigen zusammen.
